Entre otras cosas. Pero… qué pasaría si te preguntaran de una escala del 1 al 10 ¿Qué tan raro o extraño te consideras? Siendo 1 lo menos raro y 10 lo más… ¿Qué contestarían? Pues por muy chistosa y “extraña” que parezca esta pregunta el poco común Tony Hsieh director de Zappos.com llegó a la conclusión que al formular este cuestionamiento a los aspirantes a formar parte de su empresa, puede detectar si el candidato encaja o no en la cultura organizacional, debido a que responde al valor de “Create fun and a little weirdness”. As some of you may know, I’ve made the horrible mistake of going back to school. These days, I spend my free time doing homework instead of working on things that really matter to me, which I treasure and it is of the utmost importance to me. I’m happy to be doing all this extra work, because it earns me a magical sheet of paper that won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on because of the rapidly evolving field of computers a BS in IT, which I will proudly display on my wall.The good thing about this whole school thing is that I’m getting learned on dem books, and it has also given me the opportunity to complete a previous thought that I called my downloading is theft rant. I’ve taken that idea there, twisted it, rubbed some spit on it, and turned it into some kind of research paper (with the help of my girlfriend who was able to remove all my sarcastic remarks from the final draft). After spending a bunch of hours on it, I figured I might as well put it up here for anyone who is interested and to prove that I can in fact write a complete sentence.In case you were wondering… here is an example of the sheer brilliance that my girlfriend had to edit out:So who is doing all this pirating? I have discovered this song – probably like many other young fellows out there – at the end of the movie Law Abiding Citizen (which is a great movie, by the way) and I totally love it! I never heard of Grand Funk Railroad before but this song they made in the 70’s is very similar in style with the Led Zeppelin way of singing.
Trickle Up Six Months After GraduationLast November, Syed Hashemi wrote about the Trickle Up Graduation Pilot Ceremony, during which 300 women sang and danced to celebrate their move out of extreme poverty. The Trickle Up Graduation Pilot in West Bengal is one of the most advanced sites in the CGAP-Ford Foundation Graduation Program—a global effort to understand how safety nets, livelihoods and microfinance can be sequenced to create pathways out of extreme poverty.Six months after “graduation,” Trickle Up estimates that 94% of the participants in the initial pilot are maintaining their assets and still participating in the Self Help Groups. Trickle Up and its partner, Human Development Centre, are now helping the groups to link up with banks so that participants can access larger loans.From the pilot phase, Trickle Up has learned many lessons, above all, that larger grant sizes help people go much further—the amount of the asset transfer will more than double in the next phase. In India, Trickle Up has now increased from its traditional USD 100 grants to an estimated average amount of USD235. Janet Heisey, Trickle’s Up’s Program Officer for Asia says: “This pilot has allowed us to gain greater knowledge of the level of support that’s needed to help get a micro-business off the ground.” Interestingly, this change is influencing all of Trickle Up’s activities. Bill Abrams, Trickle Up’s President, explains: “Over the past three decades, Trickle Up has supported approximately 10,000 businesses annually, typically through USD 100 grants. Our commitment to serving the very poorest is stronger than ever and, in order to refine our program for maximum impact, we are bringing the lessons from our Graduation Pilot into the mainstream of our work. Among those refinements are larger and more flexible seed capital grants, as well as a three-year program instead of one.”Some other changes in program design include an increased emphasis on savings, with systematic financial management training and a consumption support adapted to food cycles. In addition, the livelihood strategy design will include a greater focus on training participants in planning their livelihood activities, keeping in mind the local market‘s absorption capacity and working to ensure the participants link to available government services—both those that support the livelihood and those that support other aspects of the family’s well-being.
